T20 Mumbai League: Deshpande helps Maratha Royals beat Bandra Blasters
The experience of Tushar Deshpande, 31, and Rohan Raje, 39, came to the fore as they not only dealt in sixes, but also took crucial wickets to steer holders Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals (MSCMR) to a sensational 25-run victory over Bandra Blasters (BB) in the T20 Mumbai League at Wankhede on Saturday.
After MSCMR were reduced to 130-8 in 14.3 overs, Deshpande (55 not out off 25 balls; 6x6) and Raje (28 not out off 14 balls; 3x6) shared an unbeaten 73-run stand for the ninth wicket to take their team to 203-8. newsbetting.club
In a dramatic collapse, BB lost eight wickets for 18 runs in 21 deliveries to be bowled out for 178. With their third loss in four matches, BB are all but out of the semi-final contention.
“We lost wickets because the ball was gripping. When I went out to bat, the spinners were bowling really well. It was important to negotiate them and once I started seeing the ball well and got a hold of the wicket, I went for the runs. The only thinking while batting was to post a commendable score and give cushion to our bowlers,” Deshpande said
“As for bowling, it was very important to take wickets, otherwise, the game was out of our hands. Luckily, I got two and that changed the game all around.”
Well set at 160-2 after 14 overs, courtesy opener Prateek Yadav’s 47 off 22 balls (4x4, 4x6) and No. 4 Jay Jain’s 46 off 23 balls (4x4, 3x6), and their fifty-plus stands with skipper Suved Parkar, BB needed 44 in 36 balls.
However, Deshpande struck off successive deliveries in the 15th over, dismissing Jain and Dhrumil Matkar. BB lost their third wicket in four deliveries when Om Keshkamat tried to steal a single and succumbed to Maxwell Swaminathan’s direct throw from mid-on.
Left-arm spinner Atharva Bhosale removed Parkar (56) in the 16th, with the batter top-edging a sweep to wicketkeeper Sachin Yadav.
Raje came on for his only over in the 17th and removed Aashray Sajnani with his first delivery. Raje bowled the fourth delivery down the leg side to Sagarr Chhabriaa, who tried to take a single. In the process, non-striker Aadit Bahutule was run out to Sachin’s direct hit.
Having lost six wickets for eight runs, it was only a matter of time before MSCMR sealed victory, which came in the 18th over courtesy left-arm pacer Irfan Umair, who picked up two wickets with catches taken inside the circle.
Top 5 biggest records broken in IPL 2026
The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League came to a close with some of the most exciting cricket played. Records were broken aplenty as new players and old ones took the league by storm. The run-scoring in the league has been on an upward trend, and all the records are indicative of that. Every year, the tournament sets benchmarks which appear to be permanent until the following year comes on and new records and milestones are set.
Here are the five biggest records broken in IPL 2026
5) Most sixes by a player in a single IPL season: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi - 72
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the talk of the town in IPL 2026. The way the 15-year-old southpaw took on the best of the bowlers was a sight to behold. He had a record-breaking run in his sophomore year of IPL cricket, scoring a mammoth 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.70. The young prodigy played a key role in the Rajasthan Royals' run to the playoffs and was their most dangerous batter.
He broke Chris Gayle's age-old record of the most sixes hit by a batter in a single IPL season. He hit a massive 72 sixes in the entire season, taking down bowlers mercilessly. He hit a massive 12 sixes in his playoff knock against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 97 runs from just 29 balls, the most sixes hit by a batter in a playoff innings in IPL.
Highest successful run chase in T20s: Punjab Kings - 265/4
The Punjab Kings in the 2026 season broke their own previous record of the highest ever successful chase in the T20 format, with a thrilling six-wicket win over the Delhi Capitals. Electing to bat, the Capitals scored a mammoth 264 for 2 in their 20 overs, with KL Rahul scoring an unbeaten 152 off just 67 balls, the highest score by an Indian batter in the IPL. He put on a mammoth stand of 220 off just 98 balls with Nitish Rana, who scored a 44-ball 91.
Chasing the daunting total, the Kings got off to a flyer with a 126-run opening stand off just 42 balls between Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, with the former scoring a 17-ball 43 and the latter scoring a brilliant 76 off just 26 balls. They lost a few wickets in between, but were led home by captain Shreyas Iyer, who finished unbeaten on 71 off 36 balls. Despite the big target, the Kings got home without breaking much of a sweat, reaching home with seven balls to spare and six wickets in hand.
Best strike rate for a player in an IPL season: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi - 237.70
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once more features on this list, this time for his impressive strike rate. His 776 runs have come at a strike rate of 237.70, the highest season strike rate. The award, first handed out in 2018, has seen just three winners with a strike rate of over 200, of which Sooryavanshi's has been the highest, marginally ahead of Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk's 234.04 from IPL 2024.
The young southpaw scored 252 runs in the 2025 season at a strike rate of 206.56, and in 2026, he took his game up a notch. He scored five half-centuries, of which three were scores in the 90s. His run tally of 776 runs also saw him become the youngest player to win the Orange Cap.
Most individual centuries in a single season: 15
The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League had the most individual centuries in one season. The 15 centuries scored in the 2026 edition eclipsed the 14 scored in 2014. In another first, this edition of the IPL was also the first instance where players from all teams have scored a century.
Sanju Samson led the way as the only player to score two centuries. The Mumbai Indians are the team with the most centurions, with hundreds by Tilak Varma, Quinton de Kock and Ryan Ricketlon. Virat Kohli scored a record-breaking ninth IPL century, while the fastest of the season was scored by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, off just 36 balls. KL Rahul's unbeaten 152 was the highest score of the season, and the highest ever by an Indian batter in the IPL.
Most individual awards for a player in a single season: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi - 5
It would be a once-in-a-blue-moon phenomenon for a 15-year-old to come into a professional sports setting and dominate as if they had been around for years. That is exactly what Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did. The young prodigy features on this list for the third time, becoming the youngest player to win the IPL awards and the first player to win a whopping five individual awards in a single season.
Sooryavanshi's 72 sixes and strike rate of 237.70 were the highest for a batter in the 2026 season. His 776 runs saw him win the Orange Cap. Sai Sudharsan, in 2025, won the Orange Cap alongside the Emerging Player award. Sooryavanshi took it one step further, also winning the Most Valuable Player award along with the other two. His exploits in the 2026 season led him to become the youngest player to be called up to the Indian team, as he has been selected in the squad for the series against Ireland and England.
"Always remain humble": Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's father issues stern warning to son ahead of India's UK tour

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s rapid surge in the international scenario is nothing less than a remarkable feat. At the age of only 15, he got his maiden call-up to represent the national team for the T20Is as the youngest ever player to join the camp.
Sachin Tendulkar made his international cricket debut for India at the age of 16 years and 205 days, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the brink of doing so at 15 only.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has picked up the emerging talent for the upcoming away series against Ireland and England, as well as for the 2026 Asian Games. The selection brought enormous joy to the Sooryavanshi family. His father, Sanjeev Sooryavanshi, could not hide his emotions when he was asked about his son’s emergence.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi recorded a stellar IPL season in 2026
Since making his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 season, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has continued to climb the ladder. The 2026 season of the league turned out as an exhibition of the Bihar-born’s hitting skills. Arguably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is currently the cleanest striker of the ball in the Twenty20 format across the globe.
During the IPL 2026 campaign, the Rajasthan Royals opener amassed 776 runs in 16 matches at a staggering strike rate of 237.31 and concluded the season as the highest run scorer in the league. Along with the Orange Cap, the southpaw claimed several other individual awards as well.
Vaibhav's father shares a couple of memorable incidents
While talking with RevSportz, Sanjeev mentioned that there are a couple of incidents that are the most memorable to him. One is when his son announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League by smashing a six in the very first ball he faced, and the other instance is when Vaibhav registered a century in a BCCI tournament.
"There are actually two memorable moments. The first was when he played his first IPL match and hit a six off the very first ball he faced. I was overjoyed. He scored around 34 or 35 runs in that innings, and I felt proud that my son had made it to the IPL. The second memorable moment was when he scored a century in a BCCI tournament. That was truly special for me," Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s father said.
Sanjeev asks his son to stay humble
Amid the feel-good atmosphere, Sanjeev advises his son to never lose focus and stay humble, as he will have to travel a long way from now on. "Now that he has been selected for the senior team, he must continue to work very hard. That is the most important thing. Secondly, he should always remain humble and keep his feet firmly on the ground."
"He must stay focused, work hard, score plenty of runs, and help India win matches. Every run he scores should contribute to the country’s success. That is what I want from him,” Sanjeev Sooryavanshi added further in his brief.
